Greetings cards for charity
Handmade greetings cards on sale in the Church Foyer Coffee shop, made by church members to raise money for different charities.
At the end of 2014 a total of £600 had been raised for Macmillan Cancer Support through the sale of these cards.
Since Janet started making and selling cards some six years ago a total of £4,600 has been raised for a variety of charities (a different one each year). Most of this came from people buying the cards at Bunyan Meeting but in the last few years Mary has contributed towards the total by selling her own cards to family and friends as well as some in the foyer. Janet and Mary have done a fantastic job of raising money for very worthy causes and this is a good opportunity to say a big thank you to them for all their hard work.
But none of this would have been possible without the support of those who have bought the cards and continue to buy them. Thank you to you all - please carry on buying your cards from the varied selection in the foyer and help to raise more money for charity.
This year Janet and Mary have decided to raise money for The Bedford Hospitals Challenge Cancer Appeal. The need is urgent as cancer treatments here have increased by 85% over the last 5 years! The main focus of the fund-raising is to extend the Primrose Unit, making room for more chemotherapy treatment stations. Other projects include new diagnostic equipment, quiet counselling rooms and work stations to provide images of X-rays and cancer scans directly to doctors. They also hope to further develop the car services for cancer patients travelling to Addenbrookes Hospital.
